Hank Shocklee
A worldwide role model for pushing the envelope and breaking new artistic boundaries, Hank Shocklee is looked upon as the leader of the pack. Whether via his production legacy which continuously ranks at the top of the 'best of' lists or throughout the academic circuit, Hank's ideologies and techniques are studied amongst a wide cross section of people that include music fans, aspiring artists, audio technology developers, universities and media policy makers.

As a DJ, producer, composer and record company executive, Shocklee has managed to work with and develop a large variety of artists and musicians across many genres all while keeping a very innovative approach and a distinction for high quality productions. Shocklee has been a force behind some of the most significant music and film projects of the last two decades including Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Anthony Hamilton, Ridley Scott's American Gangster, Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing, Ernest Dickerson's Juice and countless others.

Shawn Pierce
Shawn Pierce holds a BA in music from the Berklee College Of Music in Boston. He attended Berklee on scholarship, majored in Film Scoring and is a recipient of the Doug Timm Professional Writing Division Award. Music has been front and center throughout his life growing up in a family full of musicians with a father and sister both professionals. Teen years were spent playing keyboards in rock bands and trumpet in local/national youth orchestras and concert/stage bands. After college, a life of performing was happily exchanged for a career behind the scenes focusing on composition, commercial arranging and music production.

He has received 4 Leo award nominations and a Gemini award nomination in recognition of his scoring work. Alongside an extensive list of film and television scoring and music editorial credits, is an impressive list of close to 200 album credits. He has received 5 Juno awards, 22 Juno nominations, 12 WCMA nominations and a win for Producer Of The Year, in recognition of his album work.

Shawn will focus his presentation on song writing, recording and mixing skills. He will share many tips and tricks that he has learned and developed over the years that you can bring to bear on your own productions.

Jeff Dawson
Jeff Dawson developed and produced the breakthrough debut by songwriter Daniel Powter whose 2006 hit Bad Day soared to number one in the USA, Canada, Italy, Ireland and went top-10 in 10 other countries. Bad Day earned Jeff Grammy and Brit Award Nominations as well as a Juno Award for Canada’s best new artist in 2006.

Recent projects include the latest from platinum selling singer/songwriter Holly McNarland, John Wozniak’s solo debut, new songs with hit maker Tal Bachman, and indie favorites State Of Shock among others. Each project has it's distinct sound with the attention to musical detail being the signature left by Jeff Dawson.

Michael Nowak
Michael Nowak is a multi-talented songwriter, engineer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist. Michael has been on both sides of the microphone, and his extensive experience as a musician, both onstage and in the studio, gives him a first-hand understanding of what it takes to bring out your best performance. With an impressive breadth of knowledge gathered from more than 20 years of professional experience, he has worked in a wide range of styles including pop, rock, contemporary christian, R&B, country, jazz, soul, gospel, folk, roots, blues, world beat, and classical.

In addition to his skills as a producer and engineer, Michael is a talented composer and lyricist affiliated with ASCAP. He sings, plays guitar, keyboards and bass, and is able to arrange just about any other instrument including strings, brass, percussion, world and orchestral instruments. Michael will let you in on his recording philosophy and show you some practical techniques all designed to help you make better recordings.

Jeremy Janzen
Nucleus SoundLab was launched in January 2006 by Jeremy Janzen. NSL's purpose is to market reasonably-priced sample/patch products for a variety of software synths/samplers. Currently NSL is focused on Wusikstation, Reason, SFZ and Soundfont as its target sampler formats - but support for more formats is planned and in development.

Jeremy Janzen, Lead Designer at Nucleus SoundLab, will discuss the making of his Synthetic Kits Refill. He'll then go further in-depth to demonstrate techniques useful in creating drum and percussion sounds using Thor and Malstrom. Jeremy will show you things about Reason you probably never even contemplated were possible.

Gerry Bassermann
Gerry Bassermann is Propellerheads Director of North American Markets and an accomplished musician. He holds several degrees in music composition and performance and currently owns and operates OpusNine, a project studio in the San Francisco Bay area. For over 20 years, he has worked for many prominent music companies as a product designer, demonstrator and musical consultant.
